Fair Trade in Canada - Companies
The number of companies selling Fair Trade Certified products in Canada also continued to grow in 2008.
You can see the huge growth in the number of retailers carrying Fair Trade Certified products simply by going into your local shops and having a look for products bearing the Fair Trade Certified Mark on the packaging.
It's a little more difficult to get a sense of how many more Canadian companies are importing and manufacturing Fair Trade Certified products, however. So we've provided this table and graph that shows how many companies report to and are audited by us, and how their number has grown over the years:

"Licensees" are companies who have been authorized to use the Fair Trade Certified Mark on their product packaging. They report how much Fair Trade Certified product they buy and sell, and we regularly audit them to ensure what is sold as Fair Trade Certified actually is.
"Traders" are companies that buy and sell Fair Trade Certified products but don't sell a consumer-ready product that bears the Fair Trade Certified Mark. Examples of traders include importers and manufacturers who produce products for other brands.
Traders report to and are audited by us, just like Licensees.
